Why we need Ethics, Governance, and Management together

Ethics Alone

Good frameworks without clear ways or means to make them real. Might be ethicswashing: “ethics” just for show.

Management Alone

Ad hoc, chaotic and bad management being practiced. Without ethics or governance, there are no standards to manage toward and no structures to manage within.

Governance Alone

Bad policies, procedures, risk assessments and decision rules sitting on a shelf. Without management, governance never becomes practice.

Manage When
Implement change ethically and narrate change ethically. Change implementation frameworks and narrative frameworks are both helpful here. Knowing when to introduce AI integration — and when to slow down — is as important as knowing how.
Manage Who
Hiring and firing people and agentic AI — they’re different. Coaching and practical, ethical AI training are essential. Using AI well involves a lot of new skill, including prompting, context design, personal workbench use, team environment and data integrations, and agentic AI tooling. Training involves dealing with practical ethics and governance blockers effectively.
Manage What, Then How
Once your ethics and governance have helped provide the “why,” you’re ready for what, then how. Decide what you need to accomplish, do and/or build. Then decide how. What does “good” mean for you across current and future AI integration workflow scales?
