involves integrating facts in ways that convey a factually supported picture overall. Not just an isolated fact, but enough relevant facts.

Authentic communication

involves communicating about experiences. That includes what you authorize, and what it is like to be you.

Ethical communication

involves communicating our ethics and communicating in ethical ways.

We do not have good reasons to think that AI systems can currently do this with language. We do not know how to make them do this, or if it is possible. We may never know.

Insight: AI fractures communication, and probably will for the foreseeable future

Holistic communication — integrating factual, ethical, and authentic dimensions — is essential for warranted trust. Because AI cannot communicate authentically, human oversight of AI-generated communication is critical for maintaining the integrity of discourse.
